Hi.
I was always wondered if it was possible for blind people to get involved with sports like boxing, judo etc.
Can a blind people do sports like that or is vision necesary?
If there are any people involved with sports like that it would be good to hear their experience.

I know judo is a great sport for the blind /vi as its primarily about contact. Boxing hmm I'm not so sure, hitting your opponent would be almost impossible.

Judo and wrestling are good. I doubt that boxing would work too well; there's always the eye/hand coordination that's a necessary evil for boxing, but not possible for the blind.

Judging by some of the fighting that goes on here on a saturday night, Scotland may be fielding a team for the Paralympics.

judo and other martial arts would work as would wrestling but i wouldn't think that boxing would as stated before, there is a strong reliance on visual cues.

yes Judo and Wrestling are two very good sports for the blind and visually impaired. I actually am involved in judo and I recommend any blind of visually impaired person to take up Judo or some form of martial arts. I find that after being involved with this sport for only a few months, that I'm able to understand the importance of self defence. I have to say that martial arts teaches you how to defend yourself so, if/ when you're faced with a situation where you're being attacked by or threatened by someoen you can fight them off more easily then if you hadn't taken Judo or some other form of martial arts.

Boxing for the blind might be possible if both contestants were blind or blindfolded.

Actually, that could be interesting and fun.
